Padang Padang Beach
Padang Padang is down in the south of the island on the Bukit
Peninsula on the way to Uluwatu. Padang Padang means “green grass” and
this well-known surfing spot is home to the annual Rip Curl Cup Invitation held between July and August.
Padang Padang lies beneath a bridge and is visible from the road, so
you can check to see if the surf is working. Padang Padang is usually
only good for surfing in the dry season when there are big swells, but
when the conditions are right, it’s really pumping!
There are narrow steps leading down to the beach, which has golden
sand and is protected from the waves by a coral reef, making it safe to
swim. A mixture of surfers, tourists and expats come to this beach and
it is much more tranquil than the likes of beaches in Kuta and Seminyak.
On the beach you can get the usual snacks like Nasi Goreng and cheese
jaffles, as well as ice cold Bintang beers.
In the Padang Padang area on the main road you have restaurants,
motorbike rental, money change and an internet cafe. Most of the
accommodation is within walking distance from the beach and is pretty
basic and cheap- ideal if you’re on a budget. Places to stay in the
